Lady Eagles Wrap Up Tough Season Against Rivals David Mesa Staff Writer
Our mighty lady eagles basketball are (8,11) after playing a conference rivalry game against the Arroyo Knights. This will be the last game of the first round and the Eagles are standing in fifth place and hope to win out the rest of the season as league champions. Junior starting guard Rachel Carrasco believes that her team has really improved this season so far considering a lot of the seniors who left last year were starters. Rachel says her game personally has really improved since she first came out last year. She says “A big step up was when I got my layups down” Our mighty eagles fell behind fast as arroyo took a demanding lead 0-13 at the end of the first quarter. Their coach Jose Herrera after the first quarter told his team that they were good enough to catch up and come out with a victory but needed to work together and communicate to do so. Going into the second quarter senior captain Cheyanne Quintana was inspired by her coach and his words as she led her team in points. Unfortunately it was not enough for our ladys to make a comeback as they fall to the rival Arroyo Knights 58-20 and also to an overall record of (8,11) which gives them fifth place in league. The mighty eagles had great shots go up but sadly fell short on the rim, until Aliza Mora and Kattie Vasquez started to make shots and pass the ball to open players which really opened up the floor making more opportunities for better shots. With help from their teammates they were able to get on the board and put up some points. Although the outcome was not as expected for these mighty eagles senior captains Cheyanne Quintana and April Conchola never had a doubt that there lady's wouldn't come back and compete, therefore the eagles may have not been victorious but learned a valuable lesson one that many teams don't have which is to stick together . Great game ladies and good luck on the rest of your season
